Ask Dr. D!

"Dr. DTV" or "Dr. D," for short, is actually WTHR's Director of Engineering & Operations, Al Grossniklaus.

Al has been employed in television broadcast engineering and technical management for over 30 years, including engineering management positions with stations in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. Al has been with WTHR for 13 years, during which time he’s been intimately involved with the development of digital broadcast television as he put Indiana’s first digital High Definition television station, WTHR-DT, on the air.

Al also planned and oversaw the first ever high definition broadcast in Indiana - the September 26, 1998 Purdue at Notre Dame game broadcast live on WTHR-DT for which he was recognized with a regional "Emmy” award.

Al holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and is a distinguished graduate of the Army Signal Officer Advanced Course, and as well holds registration as a Professional Engineer. He also currently serves on several television industry technical advisory and education groups including the National Association of Broadcasters, Maximum Service Telecasters and the Society of Broadcast Engineers. Al also is a Game Day Radio frequency coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.
